One of the most common mistakes during the squat is the knees tracking the toes. One of the drills I use, even on seasoned athletes it adding tension to the squats by adding bands. Do you know what burpee is in Japanese? Itโ€™s burpee. I love the international language of the CrossFit community, yet I got a taste of what it must be like for a brand new CrossFitter, a lot of smiling, hi-fiving and wondering what in the world everyone is saying. So many benefits... -quad strength -Glute strength -Abs training -shoulder strength/stabilty -knee health -allows you to get lower/greater total body activation -allows you to focus on form due to the Kbs counterbalance of the body -full body coordination -can be used as a warm up or main movement. a great way to warm up the hips. -upper body and lower body need to operate together. "How long has it been since you've tried some Banded KB Squats?" . "Well that's too long!" . Seriously though...you really should add them in to your leg day routine. They will drastically help with core strength and ankle/foot stability. . Start off with some 26# - 35# KBs. This will allow you to get used to the KB movement as you squat....while still maintaining your form. *Add more plates to increase the overall weight. Don't increase the kettlebell size until you've done the workout a few times and are "comfortable" with the KB bounce. . ๐Ÿ’ฅUsing a box and doing pause squats is another way you can add variety AND intensity to this exercise. ๐Ÿ’ฅ . . ๐Ÿšจ- Start off with several warm-up sets, increasing the weight each time until you hit your "working weight". . . (2- 62# KBs) Banded KB Squats Work sets ~ 5 x 3 @ 370# . Banded KB box pause Squats 5 sets x 7 reps @ 260# . . These two variations of squats are a great addition to any leg day workout session. Thought it might give someone else something new to consider for their next leg day ๐Ÿฅด Quad Focused Leg Day: 4 Rounds of everything!! โ€ขSingle Leg Prop Squats on unstable surface 4 x 10 Make it quad focused by moving the front foot closer to your body (yes knee slightly over the toes) glute focused would be moving it more directly under the knee โ€ขMid-Range KB Upright Squats 4 x 10 All the way down (ass to grass) and only two thirds the way up โ€ขSled Push/Pull 4 Laps Butt low, chest up, and back in neutral position Happy Tuesday๐Ÿฆต๐Ÿพ!!

This weekend Josh attended the Strongfirst Level 1 Kettlebell Certification which is an intense 3 day course that focuses on the swing, get-up, clean, press, snatch and squat. This course helps attendees refine their own technique as well as their ability to teach others. To pass attendees must meet certain strength standards, demonstrate proper movement of each pattern and show they have the ability to properly teach these movements. There is also the dreaded snatch test โ€” 100 snatches in 5 minutes with a 24k (53 lb) kettlebell.
