Canada's involvement in TMT is both through government and private industry. There are two critical components Canada is supplying TMT, the adaptive optics system (NFIRAOS) and the Calotte dome enclosure. Without AO which allows the telescope to see past our atmosphere and the dome which protects the telescope, TMT can't operate. - A spokesperson for Canada's Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development said, “We are monitoring the ongoing situation, and will continue to work with partners ... to find a shared path forward and peacefully engage with Hawaii, the Indigenous communities, and our international partners." - Should that be enough? - "The Government of Canada must make the recognition and implementation of rights the basis for all relations between Indigenous Peoples and the federal government." - https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2018/02/14/government-canada-create-recognition-and-implementation-rights - Shouldn't this apply to the rights of indigenous Hawaiians in the handling of the TMT construction on Mauna Kea and the Government of Canada's involvement through the National Research Council? - Please let Canada's Prime Minister know how you feel. You've probably heard that the TIO has submitted a lease permit for the Canary Islands but don't doubt their desire to still want Mauna Kea for TMT. Governor Ige has extended the TMT lease two years (2021). - The National Research Council which is Canada's government agency for science approved a long range telescope but it was the TMT board that determined where it would be located. - "The Government of Canada must make the recognition and implementation of rights the basis for all relations between Indigenous Peoples and the federal government." - https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2018/02/14/government-canada-create-recognition-and-implementation-rights - This should apply to the rights of Hawaiians in the handling of the TMT construction on Mauna Kea and the Government of Canada's involvement through the National Research Council. - So please, let Canada's Prime Minister know how you feel. Governor Ige has extended the TMT lease two years (2021). Ask him to support the relocation of TMT on a site that does not conflict with indigenous peoples. #repost @3northstarscan • • • • • The white van you saw in a previous video on @kanaeokana & @puuhuluhulu traveling up to Mauna Kea is from the Canada-France Hawaii (CFH) Telescope. Doug Simons, the CFH Executive Director and a member of the Mauna Kea management board, made a comment that was quite revealing regarding the mindset of TMT Mauna Kea supporters. - The standoff, “At some level, it’s a test of wills.” https://physicstoday.scitation.org/do/10.1063/PT.6.2.20190805a/full/ - Tell Doug that the will of the Hawaiian people is stronger. That it is disrespectful to test the will of the indigenous peoples for the sake of ones research. Please share your feelings with Doug via email or the CFH instagram. I just ask that everyone be respectful and keep to Kapu Aloha. - simons@cfht.hawaii.com - @cfhtelescope - "The Government of Canada must make the recognition and implementation of rights the basis for all relations between Indigenous Peoples and the federal government." - https://pm.gc.ca/en/news/news-releases/2018/02/14/government-canada-create-recognition-and-implementation-rights - This should apply to the rights of Hawaiians in the handling of the TMT construction on Mauna Kea and the Government of Canada's involvement through the National Research Council. - So please, let our Prime Minister know how you feel. The white van you saw in a previous video on @kanaeokana & @puuhuluhulu traveling up to Mauna Kea is from the Canada-France Hawaii (CFH) Telescope. Hubblecast 92: 26th anniversary Credit: NASA & ESA - You've probably heard that the TIO has submitted a lease permit for the Canary Islands but don't doubt their desire to still want Mauna Kea for TMT. Governor Ige has extended the TMT lease two years (2021).
