I’m no food blogger or nutrition expert but one thing I do know from personal experience is that Food Heals! I follow many nutrition experts, athletes, holistic coaches who have helped me bring this practice to life! The power that whole nutritious foods have on the body can literally heal your body and mind. For years “food rules” ruled my life. I was a sugar addict, a raging bulimic and anorexic, a raging food snob and mostly a raging hypocrite. I wanted to represent health however in tern healthy didn’t encompass my life at all. Where to start? 🤔 Here are 5 things you could do this week to make your week more fulfilling. 💞 1) As soon as you wake up, sit silently and calmly & focus on your breathe. Ground yourself & be very present. Breathe in for 4 via your nose, hold for 5, and breathe out via your mouth for 7. Repeat 3 times. 💛 2) Book in a trip to the hairdresser, beautician, spa, massage therapist. A treat.No guilt.💃 3) Try a new recipe that is a wholefoods, organic focused meal that you cook at home with love for friends/family. While you are preparing it think about the healing properties of the meal & the love you feel for the people you are preparing it for. 🍽 4) Go for a mini adventure preferably in nature. Could be a walk in a different town park, a different beach, a different nature reserve. Could be a picnic somewhere beautiful & serene. Could be a rainforest visit.Oh and turn your phone off while you are there. You can take photos with your mind & heart. Just be. 🏞 5) Move a little more. Walk. Run. Dance. Gym. Yoga. Pilates. Crossfit. Bike ride. Swim. Lock in at least 3 times this week. If you are already doing that or more, then mix up whatever style of movement you are doing with something new. The body needs variety. It adapts super quick so mixing it up is like giving it a big happy boost. 🙌 ➡️ I truly believe when it comes to being more balanced, more inspired, healthier & happier women... It isnt rocket science or a massive, complicated venture. I believe its the little daily things we think, do & embody that matter. Projected with intention, with gratitude & with the knowledge that it is all in the little things every day. Day after day.Simplify ladies & get into action. Food Is Medicine- People who go through the struggle of something traumatic will not come out the other side without nutritional self discipline. I cook the sames things over and over. Luckily I love it but I wanted to expand. I've had a case of intimidation in the kitchen and a case of perfectionism that kept me from exploring. But My sister made some delicious dal some months ago and she said it was easy. I craved it and she sent me the recipe. It was so good. She gave me another recipe and i finally got ingredients last week. I watched youtube videos for best ways to chop, slice and peel. I prefer visual instructions rather then reading recipes. So i made my first spicy mung bean dish and it was so delicious. That night I decided to also register for an online course called Food is Medicine with a beautiful sister @centehua.sage Food healthy for the body with the connection that food choices also impacts the health of the planet. I've had the most fun cooking these past few days since i first cooked for my mom. I made my first anti-imflammatory root bisque soup. Great post by @empoweredautoimmune & @coachjakecarter! ・・・ Of the many reasons to consume wild-caught over farm-raised salmon, the one we will focus on here is polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) content.⁣ ⁣ Independent lab testing by the EWG of farm-raised salmon from factory-scale operations showed that 7/10 farmed salmon samples were contaminated with concerning levels of PCBs.⁣ ⁣ Although PCBs were formerly used in industrial processes, the UN Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants, signed by President Bush, slated PCBs for global phase-out.⁣ ⁣ A type of POP that is difficult to excrete due to its ability to accumulate in fat tissue, PCBs constitute mixtures of up to 209 different components, which vary depending on the number and position of chlorine atoms around the biphenyl ring.⁣ ⁣ PCBs are potent immunosuppressants, and act as tumor promoters that up-regulate the carcinogenicity of other cancer-causing substances. ⁣ Exposure to PCBs during critical early life junctures has been shown to alter behavior and reduce IQ, suggesting detrimental developmental effects.⁣ ⁣ In both men and women, PCBs elevate risk of:⁣ ⁣ ✔️ thyroid dysfunction⁣ ✔️ diabetes⁣ ✔️ hepatic disease⁣ ✔️ cardiovascular disease⁣ ⁣ EWG research found that farmed salmon contained, on average:⁣ ⁣ ➡️ 16x the dioxin-like PCB content of wild-caught salmon⁣ ➡️ 4x the dioxin-like PCB content of beef⁣ ➡️ 3.4x the dioxin-like PCB content of other seafood⁣ ⁣ Were salmon caught in the wild with this level of PCB content, the EPA would restrict its consumption to no more than once per month. The main reason for this is prostaglandins.These are the chemical signals our bodies send to the uterus to tell it to contract, thus expelling the uterine lining at the end of the menstrual cycle. Prostaglandins are normal, but the more you produce, the more you are likely to experience both bowel changes and cramps around your period. . If you find you're getting extreme bowel changes and painful periods (in absence of endometriosis) around your period, try the following: . 💩 Eliminate inflammatory foods, including A1 dairy. Inflammation is associated with increased prostaglandins. Avoiding sugar, wheat, A1 dairy and processed foods is a great place to start. . 💩 Take magnesium. It's effective in reducing prostaglandins, just don't take more than 300mg if your stools are already loose, because it could make them looser. . 💩 Take zinc. It's also effective in reducing prostaglandins, and it's a super common deficiency to have. . Some bowel changes and period pain is normal, but you may notice some months it's worse than others. Next time that happens, have a think about how you've been eating or maybe youve been through more stress than usual. Are you not sleeping well, and thus, not feeling great? If so, this is a very common occurrence in our society and I'm sure you are not alone. Have you considered looking at your nutrition in order to feel better, and sleep better? We usually talk about sleep in the context of getting through the work week, not being grumpy, or helping our muscles do their job by and through exercise. Which are true examples, and should not be left out. But it's important to look at sleep and/or nutrition when one of these two is lagging behind. Certain things, like eating a large meal right before bed, can disrupt our ability to sleep deeply, and for long periods of time (like through the night). However, if you’re going to eat before bed, a smaller meal, with some smart carbs may help your brain produce serotonin that will enhance your ability to sleep well. Additionally, if you are carrying around some extra weight, this can also cause sleep disruption. Studies point to a strong correlation between being overweight and poor sleep activity, whether the weight is the cause or result is unclear though. And on the flipside, when sleep quality is poor, our nutrition suffers quite a bit. Sleep regenerates our bodies, so when we are low on sleep, our hormones that regulate hunger get interrupted, neurotransmitters that regulate our mood don’t get refreshed, and our blood pressure is raised (amongst many other things). What that looks like is we honestly FEEL hungrier when we’re not, we CRAVE foods that are high in fat and sugars, and we THINK less clearly and handle stress more poorly. No wonder we eat donuts for breakfast when we’re tired!! If this is you, and you’re wanting some change, maybe try developing a solid sleep hygiene schedule. Or if you want to go at it from the other end, working on getting enough nutritionally dense foods in your daily life will certainly help you sleep better as well!
