My child is back in school, 2 soccer teams, I’m back in school, parent committees are chattering, work is gearing up for the holidays, new opportunities are knocking, and if I don’t go to school full time or work full time, I must also be a stay at home mom, right?🤣 And I can do it all on one cup of coffee?? 3 years ago I never would have imagined being able to do the things I’m doing now. 3 years ago, it was difficult for me to leave my house. It’s been work, I’ve pushed through fear, frustration, and failure. But here I am, and I will tell you right now, nutrition and exercise absolutely got me here. I almost gave up on my PhD yesterday. I was very decided I wanted to switch to a masters. I have these constant thoughts that I am not enough for this PhD and that I shouldn’t be here. So many of us, myself included, are struggling right now. When I was 22 years old my first husband walked out on me when I was pregnant with twins. I always thought that would be what I considered the hardest days of my life. Then I gave birth to the twins two months early and my son almost died. I thought those days would be the hardest of my life. Those were terrible, stressful, anxious times. I survived. The last few years have been some of the most stressful, scary, difficult trying times of my life. And yet, here I am. Living. And yet, here you are, no matter what you are going through. This is my routine almost every night! Hubby sleeps for work early morning, and im up with the kids until late. Almost every time im asleep at midnight if im lucky or later. Im so blessed to have both my girls, and even more grateful that Tasha is able to help me get things when im catering to Nevaeh. Although it does break my heart that my poor girl is always getting palmed off to watch her tablet or play on her own due to my youngest bub Nevaeh being breastfed and super attached to me. Literally, i have to hide once i leave her because once she see’s my face its game over 🤦🏾‍♀️😂 My hat goes out to all those supermum’s and dads who are a solo parent. I was getting sicknof my routine being the same thing over and over again that i literally felt like a maid 😂 house cleaning, feeding, looking after the kids, washing and back at it. But then i thought ‘Leeann, shut the hell up 😂 you’re a mother and that’s your job!’ Don’t get me wrong, im not complaining... i just felt annoyed at the situation thinking ‘is this it?’ • So, for any mama’s feeling the same here’s a few tips that i have only JUST started doing to keep things a little creative in my routine... • - Find a hobby to enjoy on your free time while the kids are resting - i personally love scrapbooking so that’s what i’ve started doing with my little sister - Go for a walk with the kids or out to the park (if you can manage to go on you’re own) if not take someone with you! - Create some fun activities to do with your kids (im a childcare educator which is a bonus, so i had some ideas) - Speak to your friends & organise a hangout (doesn’t even have to include money). 264 million people worldwide have anxiety. . Are you one of them? . 🙋‍♀️ I am. Anxiety and panic. That tight chest, room spinning, sweating, nauseous, heart racing horror. . I've tried so many ways to manage it but I want to share 2 with you today that I have found to be the most helpful. . 1. In those moments when I feel like I'm losing it or getting close to that ledge of being not okay, I step back and write down as many little gratitudes that I can. I write them furiously, all the things in my life that bring me joy, all my blessings...until I feel like everything is going to be okay. . 2. There is a therapy method I learned at RISE conference called EFT - also known as tapping. The concept is this, that you can tell your fight or flight response to chill out by tapping on specific pressure points in a specific order. There is a ton of research supporting it and I utilized it myself when on an airplane recently where I literally felt like we were advocating. Everytime I felt panicked, I closed my eyes and tapped. I'm sure I looked like a total goof....but it worked. Like took me from a 9 on the panic scale to a 4 within a few minutes. Look it up. . My perfectly imperfect bed. Tw. As I made my bed today, I realised how precious this piece of furniture is to me. I was raped in MY bed. For years after, I had to get into that bed and have the constant reminder of what had happened to me. I already had it playing in my head constantly, especially when I had to look at my bed at night. I kept it for a few reasons, reasons that I don't think I need to explain, as it's a long story for another day. But essentially, my bed meant a lot to me. It was the first piece of furniture I owned when I left home, it was with me through a lot and sadly, through a horrific experience. The day I changed my bed frame was a day of empowerment, like I'd stepped on the bad and went, fuck you! I squished it and felt a sense of freedom. Sadly, I still have the mattress but today was the first time in a very long time that I looked at and remembered what happened, but not the rape. I remembered the good part, that I changed it, that I accomplished so much from it. My bed is MINE again. It has been for a while but I wanted to share it and be extra thankful that I was able to change it. Something I’ve been struggling with this week is accepting constructive criticism. Theres been two instances this week where my team leader has told me of one small area with room for improvement. Whilst I know in my head that these areas are quite small in the grand scheme of things, my anxiety has been getting the best of me. I’ve been obsessing over these two small areas, letting them grow into something bigger than they are. I’ve been overthinking and second guessing everything I’ve been doing, thinking its not good enough. Even with things that are in no way related to these small areas with room for improvement. Deep down, I know I haven’t done anything wrong and my team leader is only making me aware of these areas because she knows I’m more than capable of doing better and that she is only mentioning it to help me continue to progress at work but man it’s hard to try and let that sink in. It can be so hard for those with mental health issues to accept constructive criticism as we tend to take it as a personal attack as opposed to what it actually is... help with improving. If you’re in a similar situation, remember, this does NOT make you incapable, incompetent, useless, worthless or not valued. This is simply someone trying to help you grow and reach your potential. Accept the constructive criticism and use it to grow and reach your potential. I know its hard and I honestly still struggle with this but each time those nasty thoughts start popping into your mind, remind yourself that you are capable, competent, useful, valued and worthy!! Even if you need to keep repeating those thoughts throughout the day, keep doing it. In one of my last posts, I spoke about self care, the importance of it, and some ways to make it happen for yourself. I took some time this past weekend to apply that to myself, because I’m honestly pretty bad at it. I bring work home with me everyday, I don’t eat well, I don’t sleep well. I needed a refresh and a reset. . . . . I chose to take my self care weekend to a very quiet and private monastery, an hour drive from home. I reserved a small cabin, and practiced mindfulness with the monks who reside there. . . . Self care retreats are personal, and what works for me might be unbearable for you. However, I recommend finding something which speaks to your peace, and take the time to invest yourself in it. . . Setting aside just one weekend for my self care has already made a huge difference in the way I interact with myself and my mental health, to find a place where I could really rest and observe my symptoms and caring maintenance which need more attention. . 🚨Craquage 🚨 Première séance de Rtms de la semaine, et j’ai littéralement craqué dans le bureau de l’infirmière. Tout est sorti, enfin, sûrement trop tardivement mais c’est sorti. La vérité est que je n’en peux plus. Des douleurs, des insomnies, de la colère, de l’incompréhension, des pertes de mémoires, de la fatigue, du boulot/dodo car je ne sais rien faire d’autres en ce moment, des paralysies du sommeil car mon corps sature de l’angoisse. J’ai voulu avancer mon rdv chez l’algologue.. impossible. J’ai obtenu un rendez-vous avec la psychiatre du centre antidouleurs de Soissons, je la vois le 8 octobre pour essayer de traiter la dépression par Rtms également. J’ai hâte ! J’ai vu mon médecin traitant ce matin. En arrêt jusque dimanche prochain pour le moment. On augmente la morphine et le lyrica. 😕DEPRESSION😕 Women are at higher risk for depression, while men are at higher risk for suicide. While the exact mechanism of why women are at higher risk is not completely understood, there are several reasons we think this. Of course once again hormones play a role, particularly during times like puberty, pregnancy, menopause and peri menopause. Women are also much more likely than men to live in poverty, experience work overload (due to work and typically carrying home responsibilities), as well as sexual or physical abuse. Psychiatrist Dr. Elizabeth Cox adds “It’s important to note that women have more suicidal thoughts, and attempts, whereas men have higher rates of suicide completion.” Why do we think this is?
