My morning ritual with my best friends. Daily made strawberry jam with honey and blueberries on top. I get my ten minutes of vitamin D a day. For the first time ever the Australian Parliament has a book club where the public can nominate books for politicians to read. And guess what the first book to be read is!?!? . Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe challenges the idea that pre-colonial Aboriginal Australians were hunter-gatherers. I think it is a must read. . There is now also Young Dark Emu which is suitable for school aged children. (More pics in my previous post about this book). . Both books are available from my book shop (link in bio)💚🌱 . I am so happy that these ideas are making their way into #auspolitics. . . . #alwayswasalwayswillbeaboriginalland #darkemu #brucepascoe

Trigger Warning : Security Guards Recorded on site on Djab Wurrung land 17/09/18. . The inhumane disregard The threats, The dismissal The willful ignorance. Decision makers You have a responsiblity To influence. Influence is what you do. Intended or not. You are influencing Breeding These heinous attitudes The murderous genocidal tones. You are influencing Breeding. This is so grossly disturbing it is surreal. How we as a beautiful culture So giving So peaceful So inclusive Can be so insanely disregarded Is a great tragic loss A tragic loss for So called Australia To practice fairness. Do you not want to attempt to be what you have preached as the foundations of this so called nation? It seems your care has been lost entirely It seems you are lost at sea.. I fear for what dissassociation you must be experiencing. What a dark tragic place. And here I utter these thoughts Here I utter And our sacredness lay bare Withering all the while. Generations of our people tried to play the patience game. Through fear and forced assimilation. Dont let another generation wait @danielandrews . Theres not another generation to spare. Dont make this difficult. Im not sure what you really want this to become. Your standing at the doorway of spirit and solutions And saying tough luck While you dalliance on graves. Im confused. I dont understand. What are you trying to create? It seems your breeding Genocide to me. @dwembassy Reposted from @drmngnow

Good morning, I’m seeing if anyone has a DVD player and movies that is able to be donated to our office. This is a leisure centre that we have made from goods that were going to be disregarded. Hmm 🤔 this latest Tarkinener ochre was a really gritty hard one to grind but still worth it since the resultant grey-gold colour (left) is different again from the grey-green (centre) and grey-red (right) I more easily ground the other day. Photos are not necessarily an accurate way to share these shades. And, perhaps colours are subjective things to perceive... and certainly difficult to describe, so I’m going to have a fun challenge naming all these natural shades when I’m done. I’m really pleased with how fine and smooth I’m getting these powders but I’m expecting this one, in particular, to need substantial mulling due to the grittiness I experienced when grinding it. The other six colours (so far) were much softer. #naturalichres #makingpaint #tasmaniansourced #tarkineregion #tarkinenerochre #tarkinenerrespect #tarkinenercolours #pigmentsfromthetarkine #howmanygreys #namingmybabies #grindingochre #coloursofaustralua #gratitude #inspiredbynature #thankyouoriginalcustodians #thankyouearth #oftheland #alwayswasalwayswillbe #tarkinenercountry #artistexploringtasmania

Thankfully we have social media to document how ridiculous it is that a huge show by the police force is the response to people who are trying to stop the destruction of our planet and protect the chances of a liveable future. Lip Service. Not much has changed, successive Australian governments still have the ultimate power over Aboriginal people. The djab wurrung birthing trees issue is just another example of lack of cultural respect and not having a real voice at the table when decision making occurs. Aboriginal people are painted as fanatics and tree huggers when trying to keep important cultural sites alive- this is the real history of our country, this is what native title should protect, what would the uproar be if they wanted to put a road through Uluru? Every one of these sites is just as sacred to the local people. A loss of history is a loss of identity. Consultation is pointless without listening to the responses- 'consulting' after you've already made your plan is lip service pure and simple. . . . Not sorry if I lose anyone to this post, we are only the caretakers of this land for the future and these are things you can't undo💪🏾🖤💛❤️ . . . #djabwurrung #alwayswas #alwayswillbe #aboriginal #culturalheritage #victoria #government #culture #history #sacred #respect #responsibility #alwayswasalwayswillbe #power #lipservice #conservation @liftmobapparel #liftmobapparelco

Like our new logo? Let us know what you feel! It’s a symbol full of meaning for us here at @gatheringmen It has many stories to tell. Here are just a few of them: First & foremost this logo represents our Gatherings. A hot fire burns at the very centre. Key to keeping our men warm as we sit in circle together. Yet so much more than that. Ceremonial at it's core. Our fire's unique capacity to connect & focus our collective energy is powerful. Encouraging us to lean in, embrace our vulnerability and let out what it is we are holding. To keep us present & at times help us drift away. To sink deeper into our thoughts and feelings. Allowing us to unwind. Strip back the layers and unfold. All this as the wood slowly burns down to the glowing coals that remain. Around our fire, in the first circle, sit open hearted, honest, authentic men. Breathing deep. Listening to spirit & country. Trusting the safety of the space. Dropping into their vulnerability. Speaking their truth. The outer circle represents our ancestors & elders from generations passed. Those who came before us. Those that endured & survived so that we can sit together today. Our logo also reflects the 'ripple effect' that is created through our work together at Gathering Men. The love that starts in the centre of the circle with the man himself. Doing his work. Like the pebble dropped into a pond. Ripples are created & emanate outward. Flowing out to partners, families, friends, colleagues & loved ones in community. Finally our logo pays deep homage to our strong connection to the lore, culture, spirit & land of the first Australians. Our logo symbolises tanderrum as a meeting place. Open to all. A place where cultures connect with deep intention & respect. We meet and hold our gathering on Aboriginal land. The land of the Jaara - Dja-Dja-Wurrung people of the Kuliin Nation. Always was. Always will be. We never forget this. We feel blessed to be sharing this work alongside our Indigenous brothers & Elders. #gatheringmenaustralia #heartspace #realmen #menswork #consciousmen #connection #djadjawurrungcountry #oncountry #tanderrum #alwayswasalwayswillbe #gratitude #showup #leanin

OK, so here's the thing. In Australia we are lucky enough to have the oldest, longest continuous human civilisation in world. We should celebrate and be thankful and supportive of our Indigenous cultures. They still exist despite the massacres, land clearing, destruction of sacred sites, attempted genocide, systemic racism and political discrimination. So much has been lost. So much hurt has been caused by the European settlement of this land. Near the Western Hwy out of Ararat the Djab Wurrung elders are telling us that there is an intact songline that has guided their ancestors through sacred woman's country for countless generations. A place to go to give birth. The instructions on how to navigate through this land have been passed down through song and dance for thousands of years. Those songs still exist, I've seen the dances. The landmarks that the song mentions still exist. Some of those landmarks are sacred ancient trees such as the birthing trees and the directional trees. I have spent some time on this country over the last few months and have been completely humbled and blown away with how powerful these sites are. I'm so thankful they are still here, and that the real locals have taken the time to explain a little bit of their culture to me. I'm all ears for that stuff. Right now this precious cultural treasure is under extreme threat by a road extension that will save a couple of minutes on route to Melbourne. The Local Mob are not going anywhere and they are asking all Australians to get down there and show support. If you cant get down there, please take 10 minutes to call a few phone numbers and register your protest. Vic Planning Minister Richard Wynne Phone: (03) 8683 0964 Very quick, they will log your call which means you will be added to a petition. They also suggest you could email him richard.wynne@parliament.vic.gov.au Victorian Transport Minister: Jacinta Allan Phone: 03 8392 6100 Very polite, she will add your name to the list. jacinta.allan@parliament.vic.gov.au Major Projects Victoria (the entity enforcing the eviction) Project direct line: ‭1300 779 642 Will ask you to leave a message to be passed on
